An important meeting to elect the new Speaker of the Lok Sabha was held at Union Minister Rajnath Singh’s residence yesterday. There are reports that the parties including Telugu Desam and United Janata Dal have said that they will support the person contesting for Speaker on behalf of the BJP. As a result, the names of 3 important leaders have been included in the list to be appointed as Speaker on behalf of the BJP.
No party got the required 272 MPs to form the government in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. As a result, the BJP emerged as the single largest party by winning 240 constituencies and has taken power at the center with the support of 52 MPs from its allies. Narendra Modi has become the Prime Minister again for the 3rd time.
The Union Cabinet has been constituted. While 72 people including Prime Minister Modi are in the Union Cabinet, alliance parties have also been given space in the Union Cabinet. Accordingly, Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam and Nitish Kumar’s United Janata Dal parties have been given 2 cabinet ministers each.
Apart from this, former Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, former Bihar Chief Minister Manjhi and late former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan’s son Chirag Paswan have also been included in the cabinet. All 3 of them have been given cabinet responsibility.
In this case, the work of selecting the next Speaker has started. The BJP wants to retain the post of Speaker as there is a coalition government at the centre. The BJP wants to retain the Speaker’s decision as it is final in trust vote and disqualification of MPs. At the same time, Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar’s side are said to be eyeing the post in order to keep the BJP under their control.
In this case, who will be chosen as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha at the residence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi? A major consultation was held about that. BJP leaders and alliance leaders participated in this meeting.
Lalan Singh on behalf of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s United Janata Dal, Chirak Paswan on behalf of LJP, Rammohan Naidu on behalf of Telugu Desam Party, Anupriya Patel on behalf of Apna Dal, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Manohar Lal Khattar, Dharmendra Pradhan, Kiran Rijuju, Jaishankar on behalf of BJP participated.
In this meeting, a request was made to the alliance leaders to leave the post of Lok Sabha Speaker to the BJP. It is said that the alliance party leaders have accepted it. In this meeting, it has been informed that the Telugu Desam and United Janata Dal parties will support whoever is appointed as Speaker by the BJP. They have said that their target is the politics of Bihar and Andhra Pradesh and they are said to support whomever the BJP leadership chooses as Speaker.
In the current climate, Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s United Janata Dal, which is in alliance with the BJP for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker, have given up. But BJP did not give up that position. While the BJP planned to keep the post of Speaker and leave the post of Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha to the Telugu Desam Party, now the BJP has won.
After that, tomorrow (Wednesday) or Thursday (the day after tomorrow) the final decision will be taken after consultation with Prime Minister Modi. After that, the election for Lok Sabha Speaker will be held on 26th. In this, if the ‘India’ coalition candidate of the opposition parties is not nominated, then the person nominated by the BJP-led coalition will be selected as the speaker. Perhaps the election will be held if the ‘India’ coalition of opposition parties field a candidate. It is said that in the current environment, the opposition parties are going to ask the BJP to give them the post of Deputy Speaker, and if the post is not given, they are planning to field a candidate for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker.
But the BJP does not want to give up the post of Deputy Speaker to the opposition parties. At the same time, BJP leaders have first reconciled the alliance parties because even if the coalition candidate is fielded by ‘India’, they will lose the Speaker election if they have the support of the party MPs in the alliance. It is in this context that the names of 3 prominent leaders in the BJP are in the race for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker.
Purantheswari: The top name in this list is Purantheswari. She is the daughter of late actor NTR. He is the BJP leader of Andhra Pradesh and has won the Rajahmundry Lok Sabha seat. Chandrababu Naidu is married to Purandeshwar’s sister Bhuvaneshwari.
Purantheswari – Chandrababu Naidu has a grudge. It is in such an environment that the BJP is planning to give the post of Speaker to the sister of Chandrababu Naidu’s wife who is appeasing him when he is asking for the post of Speaker.
Badruhari Mahtab: The 2nd name next to this is Badruhari Mahtab. He is from Odisha. He was active in Biju Janata Dal of former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. After that he joined the BJP and contested the Lok Sabha elections and won. Now the BJP has come to power in Odisha for the first time. In addition, the 10 MPs that BJP got in Odisha are very important to take power at the centre.
Thus it is said that Bhadruhari Mahtab may be given the post of Speaker. He is MP from Cuttack constituency since 1998. In 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019, Biju Janata Dal contested and won the Cuttack constituency. He then joined the BJP before the Lok Sabha elections. BJP offered to contest again in Cuttack. Subsequently, he contested the Lok Sabha elections in Cuttack and won on behalf of the BJP.
Ombirla: Similarly, Ombirla’s name is again in the list for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. He is from RSS background. He has won the Kota Lok Sabha constituency of Rajasthan for the 3rd time. Following the 2014 and 2019 elections, he has won the constituency for the 3rd time. The top brass is said to believe that it would be safer for the BJP to re-appoint Ombirla as the speaker as he is currently in the middle of the coalition government.
Because anything can happen in politics. Although Purandeshwari was active in the BJP, she hailed from the Congress party. Also Chandrababu Naidu’s wife Bhubaneswari’s sister. Due to this there is little hesitation in BJP to make him Speaker. Similarly, Odisha’s Badruhari Mahtab Biju joined the BJP from the Janata Dal. He joined the BJP just before the Lok Sabha elections. It is said that the BJP has little doubts about him. It is noteworthy that the name of Om Birla, who has an RSS background, is also present in the list.
