Supreme Court refuses to grant interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal.
The Enforcement Directorate has registered a case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal under various categories including money laundering, alleging that there was an irregularity in the liquor policy of the Delhi government.
In this case, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Department on the night of March 21. Arrested Kejriwal has been lodged in Tihar Jail. Meanwhile, the CBI registered a case against Kejriwal for corruption in the Delhi liquor robbery. Also, on June 26, the CBI arrested Kejriwal, who was in jail, in a corruption case.
Arvind Kejriwal, who is incarcerated in Tihar Jail, filed petitions in the Delhi Lower Court, Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court seeking bail. The Supreme Court granted bail to Kejriwal on the 12th of last month in the case registered by the Enforcement Directorate. However, he continues to be jailed in a case registered by the CBI.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking interim bail in the case registered by the CBI. The High Court heard the petition and refused to grant interim bail to Kejriwal. Subsequently, Kejriwal appealed to the Supreme Court seeking interim bail in the CBI case. Kejriwal filed a petition seeking interim bail on medical grounds.
In this case, the appeal filed by Kejriwal seeking interim bail came up for hearing in the Supreme Court today. At that time, the Supreme Court refused to grant interim bail to Kejriwal. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the CBI to respond to Kejriwal’s interim bail plea and adjourned the case till the 23rd.
