Telugu Desa Party MP Harish Balayogi has said that he will not oppose the bill if it is sent to a parliamentary committee.
The revenue from the lands donated by the people of Islam is being used for mosques, educational development of Muslims etc. The Waqf Board Act was enacted in 1995 to manage these Wakf properties. In this situation, the Central Government has proposed various amendments in the existing Waqf Board Act.
The amendment bill proposes various important changes including transparency in the functioning of Waqf Boards, ensuring representation of Muslim women and non-Muslims in the Board, and regulating the authority of the Board.
In this situation, the Waqf Board Act Amendment Bill has been tabled in the Lok Sabha today. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju tabled the bill.
However, opposition parties including the Congress opposed this amendment bill. They also refused to accept the central government’s explanations about this bill. Opposition parties also alleged that the amendment bill was anti-Muslim. Following this, the opposition MPs walked out of the House. Due to this, there was a ruckus in the house for a while.
However, the United Janata Dal and Telugu Desa parties, which are part of the National Democratic Alliance, have supported the Waqf Amendment Bill.
The parties have said that the purpose of the amendment bill is to bring transparency in the functioning of the Waqf Board and there is no attempt to interfere in the running of mosques.
Speaking about this, United Janata Dal Party leader and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said that this bill is not against Muslims. Many members say the Waqf Board Act amendment is anti-Muslim. How is this anti-Muslim?
Can’t you tell the difference between a temple and an organization? It does not interfere with mosques. This Act is for organization. He said it was for transparency.
He continued, How was the Waqf Board formed? It is created according to law. Any body created by law must be included in it. He said that a law should be transparent and it is the right of the government to bring it.
In this, there is no communal division. He slammed the opposition parties for spreading rumours.
This amendment bill should come. He said transparency should also be brought. Similarly, Telugu Desa Party MP G.M. Harish Balayogi has also said that he will not oppose the bill if it is sent to a parliamentary committee.
