The students protested against this last month. More than 200 people died as it erupted into riots. Later, following the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of the students, the incidents of violence were somewhat calmed down. In this situation, the students protested the day before yesterday, condemning the killing of many people in the protest against reservation, demanding the release of those arrested, and demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Students belonging to various organizations participated in protests and rallies in many cities including the capital Dhaka. They also staged pickets on major highways. The traffic came to a complete standstill. The ruling Awami League accused the opposition parties of instigating the protest.
Clashes broke out between students and supporters of the ruling party during the protest. Awami League party councilor Haradhanran Parasuram from Rangpur was reportedly shot dead in this riot. 100 people, including 14 policemen, have been killed so far in the riots that broke out again in Bangladesh. Hundreds were injured.
Meanwhile, as the situation got out of hand, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, resigned from her post and left the country. It has been reported that Sheikh Hasina, who is currently staying in India, is seeking asylum in England. Accordingly, preparations are underway to form an interim government in Bangladesh.
