Strong protests have been raised even before the Waqf Board Amendment Bill was tabled.
The revenue from the lands donated by the people of Islam is being used for mosques, educational development of Muslims etc. The Waqf Board Act was enacted in 1995 to manage these Waqf properties. In this situation, the Central Government has proposed various amendments in the existing Waqf Board Act.
The amendment bill proposes various important changes including transparency in the functioning of waqb boards, ensuring representation of Muslim women and non-Muslims on the board, and regulating the authority of the board. Even before the introduction of the amendment bill in the Lok Sabha, strong opposition has been raised.
In this situation, the Waqf Board Act Amendment Bill has been tabled in the Lok Sabha today. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju tabled the bill.
However, opposition parties including the Congress opposed this amendment bill. They also refused to accept the central government’s explanations about this bill. Opposition parties also alleged that the amendment bill was anti-Muslim. Following this, the opposition MPs walked out of the House. Due to this, there was a ruckus in the house for a while.
