While the reports of Annamalai becoming the Union Minister were doing the rounds, the latest reports suggest that he will continue as the BJP state president. Annamalai did not participate in the tea party held at the Prime Minister’s residence today.
Narendra Modi is set to take office as the country’s Prime Minister for the third time. After the National Democratic Alliance won 292 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Narendra Modi will be sworn in as the Prime Minister for the third consecutive term. The swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister and Union Ministers will be held in Delhi today at 7.15 pm.
Cabinet Ministers will also take oath along with Prime Minister Modi. There was serious talk that Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai might be given the post of Union Minister. It was also said that if given the post of Union Minister, he would be transferred from the post of State President.
But reports from here have gone to the Delhi leadership that Annamalai’s influence in Tamil Nadu has been growing slightly since he took over as BJP state president and he should continue till the 2026 assembly elections.
Annamalai, too, seems to want the same. Before the Lok Sabha elections, he had said that he was not interested in Delhi politics and that the 2026 elections were the target. However, he was unexpectedly announced as a candidate for the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency. Annamalai lost second place in Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency.
It was in this context that reports spread that Annamalai would be made Union Minister and then elected as Rajya Sabha MP. However, the national BJP leaders are also said to have decided that Annamalai Tamil Nadu is needed to bring the party to a good position in the state.
Thus Annamalai will continue as Tamil Nadu BJP President. He will not be a Union Minister and L, who was already a Union Joint Minister. Sources in Delhi say that Murugan is the only Union minister in Modi’s 3rd cabinet.
To confirm this, only L. Murugan from Tamil Nadu participated in Prime Minister Modi’s tea party held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi today. Former ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Jaishankar and others have also participated. So, there is no change in the Tamil Nadu BJP as of now, it seems that Annamalai will continue as the Tamil Nadu BJP President.
In this case, Annamalai denied the reports that he was appointed as Union Minister. Annamalai, who gave an interview to a private news media, said that he plans to continue his work in Tamil Nadu.
