In the elections of Mishgat, the contest was always between two Dravidian parties, DMK and AIADMK. In this election, the BJP has taken the form of rivaling the two Dravidian parties. As the third force in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has secured the second position in most constituencies.
In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the BJP formed a separate alliance in Tamil Nadu and contested as a third party.
In the 2021 assembly elections and 2019 parliamentary elections, the BJP formed an alliance with the AIADMK, this time it separated from the AIADMK alliance and formed an alliance under the leadership of the BJP alone.
In Tamil Nadu, GK Vasan’s Tamil State Congress, TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, Ramadoss’s Patali Makkal Party and some other parties contested the election under the leadership of the BJP in Tamil Nadu.
BJP contested in 23 constituencies against two Dravidian parties. In four constituencies, BJP alliance candidates contested on the lotus symbol. BJP’s other alliance candidates contested on their own symbols.
In the 23 constituencies contested, the BJP secured a new record of 11.24 percent votes. In Tamil Nadu, the Congress contested in 9 seats in alliance with the DMK and got only 10.78 percent votes. Since then, it has been confirmed that BJP has established a foothold in Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai in Coimbatore, former Telangana Governor and former Deputy Governor of Puducherry Tamilisai Soundararajan who contested in South Chennai, Vinoj in Central Chennai, Union Minister L. Murugan who contested in Nilgiris, former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan in Kanyakumari, Assembly Member Nayanar Nagendran in Tirunelveli, Ramaseenivasan in Madurai, DTV Dhinakaran in Theni and A.C. Shanmugam, the BJP alliance candidate in Vellore, have secured the second position. Also, former Chief Minister OPS in Ramanathapuram on behalf of BJP and Sowmiya Anbumani of Patali People’s Party in Dharampuri also got the second position.
In the 2019 elections in alliance with the AIADMK, the BJP did not win any constituency despite getting 3.58 percent votes. Before that in the 2014 elections, it got 5.59 percent votes. At present, the BJP’s 11.24 percent vote share in Tamil Nadu is seen as a record.
Ever since Annamalai took over as Tamil Nadu BJP president, he has been insisting that BJP is the alternative to the Dravidian parties.
And in an effort to bring BJP to the people, he went on a padayatra to all 234 assembly constituencies of Tamil Nadu in the name of En Man En Makkal and listened to the grievances of the people. The election results show that this Padayatra, which started last July, has got good results.
Prime Minister Modi’s tour of Tamil Nadu more than 12 times since last January has also established BJP in the minds of the people.
