Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a scheme in India aimed at providing housing for the homeless and low-income groups by constructing homes. The main goal of this scheme is to ensure housing for all by the year 2022. The scheme is divided into two categories: rural and urban areas. Recently, new rules have been announced regarding the selection of beneficiaries under this scheme. These rules are implemented to enhance transparency in the removal process, measurement criteria, and the selection of beneficiaries.
New Rules and Their Significance
The new rules introduce various changes in the selection process of beneficiaries, aligning it with targets and standards. This ensures that those who truly need housing will benefit the most from the scheme.
Additionally, it has been stated that the beneficiary’s photograph and relevant details must be collected using the Awas Plus mobile application.
It has also been instructed that owners of three or four-wheeler vehicles, agricultural machinery, or those possessing Kisan cards worth more than ₹50,000 should not be selected as beneficiaries.
Similarly, families with members employed in government jobs, earning salaries above ₹15,000, or those paying income or professional tax, should not be included as beneficiaries.
It is noteworthy that individuals owning 2.5 acres or more of irrigated land or 5 acres or more of non-irrigated land will not be eligible as beneficiaries.
