Prime Minister Narendra Modi released 109 high-yielding crop seeds today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released 109 high-yielding, climate-tolerant bio-enriched crop seeds at an event at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in Delhi. Prime Minister Modi introduced 109 varieties including 34 field crops and 27 garden crops. Prime Minister Modi interacted with farmers and researchers. He also visited the agricultural fields.
Among the 109 varieties introduced today are new varieties of small grains, fodder crops, oilseeds, pulses, sugarcane, cotton, etc., and horticultural crops include fruits, vegetables, jute and herbal crops.
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office in this regard, Prime Minister Modi has always encouraged the adoption of sustainable agriculture and climate change resistant methods. He emphasized on promoting bio-enriched crops by linking them with various government schemes like Mid Day Meal, Anganwadi etc. to create a malnutrition free India.
The Prime Minister says these measures will ensure good income for farmers and open up new avenues of entrepreneurship for them. This move to release 109 high yielding varieties is another step in this direction, it said.
