The petition requesting a silver medal for Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been dismissed.
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who advanced to the finals in the women’s wrestling 50 kg weight category at the Paris Olympics, was disqualified due to exceeding the weight limit by 100 grams. This action, which caused severe shock to Phogat, led her to announce her retirement from wrestling competitions.
Meanwhile, Vinesh Phogat challenged her disqualification before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), arguing that she should be awarded the silver medal as her weight was within the limit up to the finals.
Following this, the CAS announced that an investigation would be conducted into the Vinesh Phogat case. Judge Anabel Bennett later reviewed the case, with senior Indian lawyer Harish Salve representing Phogat’s side.
After the arguments were concluded, the verdict was postponed three times. In this context, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed the petition requesting a silver medal for Vinesh Phogat at the Paris Olympics.
Previously, it was announced that the verdict would be delivered on August 16, but today the case has been dismissed. The Indian Olympic Association has stated that the next steps in the Vinesh Phogat case will be decided soon and that the case raises serious questions about unclear rules.
