Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a 35-feet tall statue of Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji at Rajkot Fort in Maharashtra on December 4. The statue collapsed on the 26th of last month, just 8 months after its installation. This was a huge shock.
The opposition parties accused the central and state governments in a barrage of accusations in this matter. The police yesterday arrested Chetan Patil, the architect who designed the statue, who had been absconding for the past few days. In this situation, the opposition parties in Maharashtra today protested against the collapse of the Shivaji statue.
Nationalist Congress (SP) President Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena (UPD) President Uddhav Thackeray started and participated in the demonstration. State Congress President Nane Patol and others participated. They took part in a protest rally from Hutama Chowk in South Mumbai to Gateway of India. The marchers raised slogans condemning the fall of the Shivaji statue.
