Ongoing Strike by Doctors in Kolkata Following the Murder of a Female Doctor
The tragic murder of a 31-year-old female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata has shocked the nation. On August 9, she was brutally assaulted and then murdered, sparking widespread outrage. Sanjay Roy has been arrested in connection with the case, which is currently under investigation by the CBI.
In response to this incident, doctors and medical workers in Kolkata have been protesting, demanding better safety measures. The Supreme Court has established a 10-member National Task Force to address the concerns of doctors and medical staff.
Supreme Court Order and Government Assurance
The Supreme Court recently issued an order stating that doctors participating in the strike must return to work by 5 p.m. today. The Court assured that no action would be taken against them if they complied. Additionally, the West Bengal government has assured that no punitive measures or transfers will be imposed on the protesting doctors.
Despite these assurances, the doctors have decided to continue their strike. They emphasize that their demands must be met, including justice for the murdered doctor. One of the protestors has called for the removal of key officials, including the Kolkata Police Commissioner, the Health Secretary, the Director of Health Services, and the Director of Medical Education, by 5 p.m. today.
Continued Protest and Future Actions
The ongoing protest reflects the doctors’ frustration with the lack of fulfillment of their demands. They have indicated their willingness to continue the strike until their requirements are addressed and justice is served. The situation remains tense, with the potential for further developments depending on the responses from the authorities and the progress of negotiations.
