As the BJP is about to form the government for the first time in Odisha, there is great expectation as to who will become the chief minister. There are reports that an ex-IAS officer will be elected as the Chief Minister of Odisha. He is Girish Chandra Murmu.
BJP has won the Odisha assembly elections. The BJP alliance has won 78 of the total 147 assembly constituencies there. Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal won only 51 seats. Congress won 14 seats. With this victory, the BJP is in power in Odisha with a single majority.
Who will be the Chief Minister of Odisha?: With the BJP coming to power for the first time in Odisha, who will be chosen as the Chief Minister is now everyone’s expectation. While former Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and tribal leader Jewel Oram are among the names in the race for the post of Chief Minister, another name has unexpectedly taken center stage.
That is, former IAS officer Auditor General Girish Chandra Murmu’s name is in the running for the post of Chief Minister. Girish Chandra Murmu is on the favorite list of Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Modi has held high positions in the government.
Who is this Girish Chandra Murmu?: Girish Murmu’s hometown is Bednodi in Mayurpanj district of Odisha. There was Girish Murmu who belonged to the Santhal tribe. Girish Murmu, a Gujarat cadre 1985 batch IAS officer, was the Principal Secretary in the state of Gujarat when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. When former Union Home Minister Amit Shah was the Home Minister of Gujarat, Girish Murmu served as Home Secretary under him.
Proximity to Modi: Girish Murmu was given the task of handling the 2002 Gujarat riots cases. Subsequently, he served as the first Lieutenant Governor after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into the Union Territory. Murmu was appointed CAG within the next year. Girish Murmu is known to be closest to Modi and Amit Shah.
Girish Murmu has been the Auditor General of India (CAG) since 2020. His tenure will end in a few months. In this case, it seems that if he is announced as the Chief Minister of Odisha, he will resign from his post and enter politics.
Right Choice: Dharmendra Pradhan, Jewel Oram elected as Lok Sabha MPs from Odisha. It is said that there is an additional possibility that Dharmendra Pradhan will be pushed back and Girish Chandra Murmu will become the Chief Minister of Odisha as it will not be the right decision to ask the MPs to resign when the coalition government is about to be formed due to the lack of majority at the centre.
If the BJD wins again in Odisha, Naveen Patnaik was expected to make former IAS officer VK Pandian the chief minister of Odisha. In this case, when the BJD lost power and the BJP won, it is said that a former IAS officer is going to be the Chief Minister of Odisha.
Odisha BJP president Manmohan Samal said, “The party’s parliamentary group will decide who will be the chief minister in a day or two. BJP’s new chief minister will take oath on June 10. The Chief Minister selection will be based on the criteria set by the Prime Minister. Mannin Minder from Odisha will be the next chief minister to uphold the culture and heritage of the state,” he said.
