PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss has said that indirect alcohol advertisements should be removed from Chennai Formula 4 car race track.
Advertisements of Kingfisher liquor have been placed in a large number of places around the Formula 4 car racing track in Chennai to make it bright in the eyes of the public. Such advertisements can have a very negative impact on the minds of the audience; It makes you want to drink that type of alcohol. It is condemnable that this liquor advertisement is done for liquor and it is allowed by the car racing organization and the Tamil Nadu government.
Direct advertising of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products is prohibited. Therefore, alcohol and tobacco companies are indirectly imposing advertisements.
As a liquor is sold under the same name, drinking water, soda, sugar products are introduced in the market and advertise liquor under their name. However, as per the provisions of the Central Government’s Consumer Protection Commission’s ‘Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisements and Endorsements for Misleading Advertisements, 2022’, it is prohibited to advertise alcohol indirectly.
Apart from that, the Central Government’s Consumer Protection Commission has ordered in June 2022 to ban alcohol advertisements in the name of soda advertisements and tobacco advertisements in the name of CDs and Panmasalas.
With so many restrictions against indirect advertising of alcohol, it cannot be allowed to ignore all this and let the Tamil Nadu government, which is supposed to prevent it, look on in a sporting event where tens of thousands of spectators participate.
In the past, the Patali Makkal Party and the Green Homeland Organization have pointed out and blocked alcohol and tobacco advertisements during batting matches. I still point to alcohol ads with the same care. Anbumani Ramadoss has urged that the Tamil Nadu government should take immediate action to remove the indirect alcohol advertisements placed on the Formula-4 car race track in the public interest and to fulfill the duty to protect the people.
