In the cabinet led by Prime Minister Modi, 5 people from the state of Maharashtra are appearing as ministers. Let’s see who they are.
The results of the 18th Lok Sabha elections were announced on June 4. In this, the BJP has won 240 seats with the support of its allies and has secured a majority of 293 and has formed the government at the centre. The inauguration ceremony of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of the country for the third term is being held today at the President’s House.
Narendra Modi has been sworn in as Prime Minister. Following PM Modi, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari were sworn in as ministers. Nitin Gadkari is at the 4th position in Modi’s cabinet.
6 MPs from Maharashtra Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, Raksha Katse, Muralidhar Mohol, Ramdas Atwale and Prataprav Jadhav will take oath as ministers in the National Democratic Alliance government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Narayan Rane and Dr. Bhagwat Karath, who were Union ministers in the BJP, did not get a place in the new cabinet.
Nitin Gadkari: Nitin Gadkari, who achieved a hat-trick by winning the Nagpur Lok Sabha constituency, hails from Vidarbha, where the BJP’s performance in the recent general elections was poor. Nitin Gadkari has a strong RSS background.
He served as Union Minister of Road Transport and Shipping in the previous Modi government. Gadkari is key to the BJP’s efforts to recapture power in the Vidarbha region ahead of the Maharashtra state assembly elections scheduled for September-October this year. In this case, Nitin Gadkari is again appearing in the cabinet.
Piyush Goyal: Piyush Goyal, who has been a Rajya Sabha MP, has been elected in his first Lok Sabha election from the Mumbai North constituency. He held important posts in Commerce, Power and Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in the previous government. Piyush Goyal is known to be close to Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah.
Piyush Goyal, the son of senior BJP leaders Ved Prakash and Chandrakanta Goyal, has enjoyed good relations with the industry and business community ever since he took over as minister.
Ramdas Advale: Social Justice Minister in the previous Modi government, Ramdas Advale did not field any candidate for his Republican Party of India (Adwale) but supported Mahayudi alliance candidates in Maharashtra in the general elections. The BJP government is making him a minister again to establish that the BJP-led NDA government will provide due representation for the betterment of the Dalit community.
Pratap Rao Jadhav: Shiv Sena MP Pratap Rao Jadhav belongs to the Maratha community and hails from Vidarbha region. Prataprav Jadhav, who switched from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, was elected to the Lok Sabha for the fourth consecutive term.
Earlier, Prataprav Jadhav was a minister of state in the Maharashtra cabinet during the Shiv Sena-BJP government between 1995 and 1999. He chaired the Parliamentary Committees on Rural Development and Information Technology.
Raksha Khatse: Raksha Khatse, daughter-in-law of former BJP senior leader and current NCP Sarath Pawar party chief Eknath Khatse, is a two-time MP from Raver constituency. In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Raksha Gadse defeated Sriram Patil of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharath Pawar) in the Jalgaon Lok Sabha constituency by a margin of 3.36 lakh votes. In this case, he becomes a minister in the Modi government.
Six Union Ministers of the Bharatiya Janata Party contested the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. Among them, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs and Textiles Piyush Goyal and Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Narayan Rane were the winners.
But three state ministers failed. Rawzaheb Dhanve Patil, Kapil Patil and Bharti Pawar were defeated. In this case, currently 5 people from Maharashtra state are included in Modi’s 3rd cabinet.
