The central government has denied reports that India is responsible for the floods in Bangladesh.
The country’s media reported that India was responsible for the floods in the eastern border districts of Bangladesh. It blamed the flood on the overnight opening of Dambur Dam in Tripura state without prior notice. In this situation, India has categorically denied the allegations made by the Bangladeshi media. In this regard, the statement issued by the Union Ministry of External Affairs said:-
The opening of the Tambur Dam on the upper reaches of the Kumdi River in Tripura has caused widespread concern in Bangladesh. This is not true. The catchment areas of the Kumdi river have received very heavy rains in the past few days. This is the primary cause of flooding,” the statement said.
