Due to the rains in the Cauvery catchment area, the flow of water to Okanagan has increased.
After the Kabini and Krishnaraja Sagar dams in Karnataka state were full, excess water is being released from the 2 dams into the Cauvery River in Tamil Nadu. According to this, 15 thousand 965 cubic feet of water per second is being released in Cauvery river from 2 dams. This water comes to Cauvery River Okanagan in Dharmapuri district. Meanwhile, it has been raining in the Cauvery catchment area for the past few days. Due to this, the flow of water to Okanagan has increased.
Accordingly, the water flow which was 8 thousand cubic feet per second the day before yesterday was 19 thousand cubic feet per second as of 8 am yesterday morning. In the evening the water flow had increased to 22 thousand cubic feet per second.
In this case, the flow of water in Okanagan Cauvery river has increased to 24 thousand cubic feet. Due to this, Okanagan Piligundu Cauvery river has flooded again. Due to this, the main waterfall, Sinipals and five waterfalls are overflowing. For 26 days, tourists have been banned from bathing in the waterfalls due to security reasons.
Officials of the Central Water Resources Department are monitoring the flow of water in the Cauvery River at Pilikundulu on the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border. Okanagan Police, Revenue Department, Fire Rescue and Home Guards are actively patrolling the area due to increased water flow.
