Sharing his thoughts on his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday (September 27, 2024), Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said it was a happy meeting and said, “The Prime Minister is in his hands. A fruitful meeting is a pleasure.
Addressing reporters at the Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi after the meeting, Mr. Stalin said he had emphasized three demands in his memorandum to the Prime Minister.
Asked if there was any change in the Prime Minister’s attitude since the previous meeting, Mr. Stalin said, “He met as Prime Minister, I met him as Chief Minister. That’s it!”
Though usually allotted 15 minutes with the Prime Minister, his meeting with Modi lasted up to 40 minutes and Stalin said the Prime Minister listened patiently. “So now you know how the meeting went,” he told reporters.
When asked about the Prime Minister’s response to Tamil Nadu’s demands, Mr. Stalin: “He said he would discuss and inform us.”
While he termed the meeting as pleasant, Mr. Stalin said: “We are making demands without giving up our rights. We are strong in not giving up our rights.
On Senthilbalaji’s release
Responding to a question about DMK alliance’s (Liberation Leopards Party) thoughts on its role in power, Mr. Stalin, “Who Asks? No matter who I asked, he gave me an explanation. You are trying to deflect the problem. In response to frequent queries in this regard, he replied, “It may be their policy. They have been saying it for a long time. This is not new.”
Speaking on former Minister V. Senthilbalaji’s bail, Mr. Stalin reiterated his stand that Senthilbalaji was brave and the party congratulates him. He also hoped to win the legal battle in court.
Chief Minister M.K.Stalin said that the meeting with Congress leader Sonia Gandhi was a matter of respect.
Responding to a question that the central government is proposing to negotiate between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka regarding the Cauvery issue, Mr. Stalin said, “The case is in the court. We will discuss this and take a decision,” he said.
Mr. Stalin said that his private meeting with Congress Parliamentary Party leader Sonia Gandhi was a courtesy meeting.
