Devotees Must Wear Masks – Tirupati Devasthanam Announcement
Due to the spread of the HMPV (Human Metapneumovirus) virus, devotees visiting Tirupati are required to wear masks, as announced by the Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Trust Board, P.R. Naidu. This precautionary measure has been taken to ensure the health and safety of the devotees.
Virus Spread and Preventive Measures
The HMPV virus is known to cause respiratory infections, particularly affecting children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. To curb its spread, TTD has mandated that all devotees wear masks while visiting the temple.
Vaikuntha Ekadashi Preparations
The Vaikuntha Ekadashi festival will be observed from January 10 to January 19, during which the temple’s “Vaikuntha Dwaram” (Heavenly Gate) will remain open. Passing through this gate during the auspicious period is believed to hold great spiritual significance.
Arrangements for Devotees
- Darshan Permits:
Only devotees with prior tickets will be allowed to participate in the darshan. - Token Counters:
Free darshan tokens will be available starting tomorrow at eight counters in Tirupati and one counter in Tirumala for devotees. - Security Measures:
Over 3,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure security and manage the crowds during the festive days.
Why Masks Are Mandatory
Mask-wearing became a critical preventive measure during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it continues to be essential due to the risk of HMPV spread. The temple often witnesses large gatherings, increasing the risk of infection transmission.
Guidelines for Devotees

- Wear Masks: Wearing a mask is mandatory at all times.
- Maintain Social Distance: Devotees are encouraged to practice social distancing wherever possible.

- Devotees are requested to adhere to all guidelines issued by the TTD for their safety and the well-being of others.
This announcement by the Tirupati Devasthanam highlights the importance of safeguarding public health while ensuring a smooth and fulfilling spiritual experience for devotees. By following these measures, devotees can worship Lord Venkateswara safely and responsibly.
