Children will enjoy dressing up as Krishna and Radha.
Krishna Jayanti is celebrated as the day when Lord incarnated on earth to destroy adharma and establish dharma. On Teipira Ashtami in the month of Avani, Sri Krishna incarnated as the son of Vasudeva-Devaki inside the prison at midnight in Rohini Nakshatra.
Born in a prison controlled by Kamsa, Krishna grew up in Gokul until he was 3 years old. From the age of 3 to 6 he lived in Vrindavan, at the age of 7 with the Gopis, and from the age of 8 to 10 at Mathura.
During these periods Krishna killed many demons to fulfill the purpose of his incarnation. After Bhagiratha tried to kill himself and failed, Taimaman also killed Kamsa and established dharma. He also freed his parents, Vasudevar-Devaki and Patanar Ukrasenar, who had been in Kamsa’s prison for many years. Lord Krishna accomplished so many extraordinary feats within his 10 years.
Celebrating Lord Krishna’s birthday is a joy for his devotees. They celebrate it as our house festival. They celebrate Krishna’s birthday with love, joy and pure devotion just as they celebrate their child’s birthday with joy.
All the mischief done by Lord Krishna as a child is to be enjoyed. To commemorate this, on Krishna Jayanti, devotees enjoy dressing up their children as Krishna and Radha. Krishna Jayanti will be celebrated with enthusiasm in schools, art galleries and places where art is taught. Along with the students, the teachers also celebrate and enjoy with enthusiasm. Children dress up as Krishna, wearing crowns made of peacock feathers and holding flutes in their hands. Thus participating in the show dressed as Krishna is a favorite among children too.
This year Krishna Jayanti is celebrated on 26-8-2024 (Monday). On the day of Krishna Jayanti, houses are cleaned and kolams are made at the door, and from the door to the pooja room or the place where pooja can be performed, footprints of young children are drawn. It is believed that Krishna himself has come home by drawing like this.
On Krishna Jayanti, one should decorate the idol or picture of Krishna in the house and worship Krishna by doing his favorite offerings. You can worship Lord Krishna by preparing cheedi, aval, ladtu, appam, flatbread, mullu murukku, country sugar etc. For those who can’t afford to spend too much and can’t afford to make Naivedha, they can simply make it with murung, cheese and some butter. As far as Krsna is concerned, what matters is not what we give, but with what pure devotion we give. They can do their best with pure devotion.
Participating in the special abhisheka rituals held at temples on Krishna Jayanti will keep the day auspicious.
